Brand Name: Prilosec
Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules is taken for:Treating ulcers, heartburn, gastroesophageal reflux, or Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules might be taken with antibiotics to treat and eliminate certain types of ulcers. It might and be taken for other conditions as determined by your physician.
Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It reduces stomach acid secretion by blocking the last step of acid production by the stomach lining.
Do NOT use Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules if:
- you are allergic to any ingredient in Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules
- you are taking an HIV protease inhibitor (eg, indinavir)
Contact your physician or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.
Before taking Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules:Some medical conditions might interact with Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules. Tell your
doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:
- if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
- if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
- if you have allergies to medicines or other substances
- if you have liver or other stomach problems
Some MEDICINES MIGHT INTERACT with Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules. Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:
- Imidazoles (eg, ketoconazole) or voriconazole because they might increase the risk of Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules's side effects
- Anticoagulants (eg, warfarin), benzodiazepines (eg, diazepam), carbamazepine, cilostazol, clarithromycin, clozapine, cyclosporine, digoxin, disulfiram, hydantoins (eg, phenytoin), or
methotrexate because the side effects or toxic effects of these medicines might be increased and dosage adjustments might be necessary
- Cyclosporine, HIV protease inhibitors (eg, indinavir), imidazoles (eg, ketoconazole), or vitamin B12 because their effectiveness might be decreased by Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules

How to use Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules:Use Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules as directed by your physician. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.
- Use Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules before eating.
- Swallow Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules whole. Do not split, crush, or chew before swallowing.
- If you have difficulty swallowing the
capsule, you might open it and sprinkle on applesauce. Add 1 tablespoon of applesauce to an hollow bowl, open the capsule, and carefully hollow all of the pellets on to the applesauce. Mix the pellets with the applesauce and swallow the mixture immediately with a glass of cool water to produce sure you have completely swallowed all of the pellets. The applesauce should not be boiling and should be soft enough to be swallowed without chewing. Do not crush or chew the pellets. Do not store the pellet/applesauce mixture for future use.
- Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules might be taken with antacids if your physician has instructed you to use antacids.
- If you miss a dose of Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your natural dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at one time.

Important safety information:
- Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules might cause dizziness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules. Taking Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules alone, with certain other medicines, or with alcohol might lessen your ability to drive or perform other potentially dangerous tasks.
- Potent acid-reducing medicines such as omeprazole can decrease the effectiveness of sucralfate, and other drugs, such as the antifungals ketoconazole and itraconazole. If instructed to use any of these medicines while taking omeprazole, call your physician or pharmacist regarding the proper timing of each dose.
- Do not drink alcohol while you are taking Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules.
- Additional monitoring of your dose or condition might be needed if you are and taking ampicillin, iron, or moclobemide.
- Lab tests, including liver function and complete blood count, might be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. Be sure to
keep all physician and lab appointments.
- Use Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules with extreme caution in CHILDREN younger than 2 years of age. Safety and effectiveness in this age group have not been confirmed.
- PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant, discuss with your physician the benefits and risks of taking Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules during pregnancy. It is unknown if Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules is excreted in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules.
Possible side effects of Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules:All medicines might cause side effects, however many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your physician if any of these most GENERAL side effects persist or become bothersome: Constipation; cough; diarrhea; dizziness; gas; headache; nausea; stomach pain; vomiting. Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur: Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue).

Proper storage of Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules:Store Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F
(15 and 30 degrees C), in a shut container. Store away from heat, moisture, and thin. Do not store in the bathroom. Store Prilosec Delayed-Release Capsules out of the reach of children and away from pets.
